Mexican kingpin El Chapo, whose real name is Joaquín Guzmán Loera, has been one of the most notorious drug lords in the world since the 1980s. when he rose to become one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel and began producing heroin and cocaine in Mexico. The Drug War in Mexico has claimed over 100,000 lives since it began almost 10 years ago, with over 20,000 deaths occurring in the last two years alone. How did this happen? Why can’t Mexican officials stop El Chapo?

Introduction – Who is Guzman?

Joaquin El Chapo Guzman is the world’s most notorious drug lord. He is responsible for supplying hundreds of tons of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine to the United States. He has been indicted on multiple federal drug trafficking charges and is currently awaiting trial in the United States. Guzman is a symbol of the failure of the war on drugs.

History of Violence

Joaquin El Chapo Guzman is the most notorious drug lord in history, responsible for smuggling billions of dollars worth of drugs into the United States. He is also a violent man, responsible for hundreds of murders. In 2001, he escaped from a Mexican prison in a laundry cart and spent the next 13 years on the run. In 2014, he was captured by Mexican authorities. but escaped again in 2015. He was finally recaptured in 2016 and is currently awaiting trial in the United States.

Rise to Power

Joaquin El Chapo Guzman is one of the most notorious drug lords in history. He rose to power in the 1980s, when he started working for Pablo Escobar’s Medellin cartel. By the 1990s, he had become one of the biggest drug traffickers in Mexico. In 2001, he was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, he escaped from prison in 2015 and has been on the run ever since.

First Capture

Joaquin El Chapo Guzman was born in La Tuna, a small village in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. He started working in the drug trade as a teenager, and by the time he was in his twenties, he had become one of the most powerful drug lords in Mexico. In 1993, he was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison. But he escaped from prison in 2001 and went on to become one of the world’s most wanted men.

Second Capture and Escape

In July 2015, El Chapo was captured for the third time and sentenced to life in prison. However, he escaped in July 2016 and is currently on the run. It is believed that the Sinaloa Cartel is still actively operating under his leadership.

The drug war will never end because there will always be a demand for drugs. El Chapo is just one example of how the drug war is an endless cycle.

Third Capture, Trial, and Sentencing

On February 22, 2014, Mexican marines captured Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. He was indicted on multiple federal drug trafficking charges in the United States and was extradited to the U.S. on January 19, 2017. On November 13, 2018, he was found guilty of all ten counts against him.
