We live in an era where technology is constantly infiltrating every aspect of our lives. From work to personal, education to entertainment, it seems that everything you do requires some sort of tech tool!
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all of the gadgets and gizmos we have access to now. Some seem totally necessary while others are just wasting space or electricity.
Luckily, there is a way to identify what types of technologies are needed and which can be left at the door when coming to school. In this article, I will discuss seven different types of technologies and how they relate to each other.
Technology type number one: Computers
Name: Computer scientist
Description: A computer programmer is someone who writes software for computers. This could mean creating apps, web applications, or even designing entire operating systems.
Software engineers build both big and small programs using a variety of tools and techniques. Since most companies these days use technology heavily, programmers are in high demand.
Why it’s important: Learning how to code is increasingly valuable as more and more people use advanced software applications every day. If you want a job with strong employment chances, learning programming is essential.
And though coding isn’t necessarily a practical skill (yet!), knowing some basics makes moving up the ladder much easier.
Technology is a hot topic these days
People are constantly talking about technology, whether it’s discussing how advanced smartphones have become or hearing stories about how some people use technology to achieve their dreams.
And they’re not just talking about what kind of gadgets we have now, but where tech will take us in the future as well.
So what IS technology, anyway? Many would agree that technology refers to devices (such as computers, tablets, and phones) along with software (like Google Maps and Photoshop).
But what if I told you that there were other things like technology?
I bet you wouldn’t believe me at first, but think about it for a minute and I’m sure you’ll come up with one or many.
Computers
Technically, computers are not a type of technology, but rather an example of one of the many technologies we use every day. A computer is just a device that allows for calculations to be done digitally (using math formulas instead of doing arithmetic calculations).
Technology came about when someone invented the printing press, which allowed for the printed matter to be distributed more easily. Once people learned how to use this tool, it became prevalent everywhere there was paper to put things down.
Since then, digital tools have exploded in popularity and importance! You can find almost anything you want or need to purchase online, and using a computer has become a part of daily life for most adults.
Computers are now found in nearly all areas of our lives- from working out at the gym to checking email, posting comments and messages on social media sites, and even keeping up with family members across the country or around the world.
There are two main types of computers: personal computers (PCs) and mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. PCs are usually used for longer-term projects or tasks that don’t require much immediacy, while mobile devices are focused more on instant gratification.
Smart TVs
Technically, a smart TV does not qualify as technology because it is not designed to be used independently. However, with the right apps, you can use your smart TV like any other device!
Some apps allow you to control the television from across the room using their built-in app or web browser. Others let you add external devices such as headphones so that you do not have to watch through the screen’s speaker setup.
There are even some apps that go beyond just displaying content by offering things such as voice search, gaming, and movie streaming. All of these functions require you to pay for additional software or services, but they are worth it.
A few examples of this include Netflix and Amazon Prime where you get free one-month trials of each service. If you decide to keep paying for both then at least you will know what level of quality you want for movies and videos.
Overall, while technically not a standalone device, smart televisions are increasingly becoming dependent upon tech.
Gaming consoles
Consoles are not limited to video games alone, you can also use them for other functions such as streaming services or music listening. Some of the most well-known console brands include Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. All three have their own style of gameplay and features that make them unique.
Not only do they all offer similar functionality in terms of gaming, but their online connectivity is very strong as well! This allows players from around the world to connect with each other and compete or play together.
These types of consoles usually start at around 250 dollars and up depending on how much content you want to download. But remember, it’s worth it because you get more than just entertainment! You get community support as well which can be helpful when things go wrong.
Cameras
Camera technology has come a long way! Gone are the days when you had to use a slow shutter speed or short exposure times to get good pictures.
Now, digital cameras do almost everything for you! They automatically focus, reduce noise, and edit photos for you.
Many have heard of smartphone apps that take great still images, but not too many know about e-shutter apps. These can actually capture moving objects or events!
With most smartphones these days having large screens, it is easy to display your picture in a quick note, slideshow, or just plain look at it!
There are also front-facing camera options now, making it possible to record yourself while doing things like making makeup looks or taking self-portraits!
Camera technology continues to evolve as companies develop new ways to apply it.
External hard drives
For many, external hard drives are one of the biggest technology purchases. They can be expensive, to begin with, and then there’s the cost of putting in place initial backups.
That’s why it is so important to know what kind of backup you have already!
If your computer crashes or something else gets damaged, your most recent data will still exist somewhere. They may not be easily accessible, but they all work via USB, which means you can use them anywhere that has USB ports!
Many people choose an internal hard drive and store their files such as pictures, documents, and apps on it. Then they copy everything onto their external hard drive for additional safety.
This way, if his computer breaks down, someone can just take the external hard drive and go! Plus, you get two separate backup systems instead of one.
External hard drives come in different sizes, some smaller ones being able to hold only a few gigabytes of data before running out of space, while larger models can hold much more.
Technology is a hot topic these days
With every passing day, you will find more and more media coverage about technology. You can almost count on there being a talk show or news segment focused on the latest “tech” trend or product.
Technology has become such a large part of our daily lives that it now seems like an integral part of life. From smartphones with big screens to self-driving cars, people are constantly coming up with new ways to use tech.
Laptops
Technically, computers are not a type of technology, but rather an example of one technology you can find in this category. Computer science as a field is the study of software and computer programming, so knowing some basics about what makes up a computer and how to use them is important!
Most people associate technology with things like phones, laptops, and televisions, but there’s more to it than that. For instance, web browsers such as Google Chrome or Firefox are technologies!
Another very common way to describe technology is “tools used for doing something.” For instance, using a smartphone to look up information is using a tool to do something (searching the internet).
Technology comes in many forms. Some forms we consider totally normal and integral parts of daily life, while other forms seem less intuitively connected to our everyday lives. This article will discuss seven different types of technology, what experts call the Seven Stages of Learners’ Technology Use.
Stage One: Using Technology As A Tool To Achieve Other Goals
This stage includes using technology to achieve goals beyond just learning new skills. These may be educational ones like studying hard materials or motivating ones like looking after your career.
Many students start off using technology for these purposes, but eventually, they get distracted by the flashy features or benefits that technology has to offer. At this stage, their usage of tech is mostly focused on giving them rewards in the form of toys or entertainment.
