The Drug War in Mexico has claimed over 100,000 lives since it began almost 10 years ago, with over 20,000 deaths occurring in the last two years alone. How did this happen? Why can’t Mexican officials stop El Chapo?

History of Violence

In 2014, he was captured by Mexican authorities. but escaped again in 2015. He was finally recaptured in 2016 and is currently awaiting trial in the United States.
Rise to Power

By the 1990s, he had become one of the biggest drug traffickers in Mexico. In 2001, he was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, he escaped from prison in 2015 and has been on the run ever since.

He started working in the drug trade as a teenager, and by the time he was in his twenties, he had become one of the most powerful drug lords in Mexico. In 1993, he was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison. But he escaped from prison in 2001 and went on to become one of the world’s most wanted men.
Second Capture and Escape
In July 2015, El Chapo was captured for the third time and sentenced to life in prison. However, he escaped in July 2016 and is currently on the run. It is believed that the Sinaloa Cartel is still actively operating under his leadership.
The drug war will never end because there will always be a demand for drugs. El Chapo is just one example of how the drug war is an endless cycle.
Third Capture, Trial, and Sentencing
On February 22, 2014, Mexican marines captured Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. He was indicted on multiple federal drug trafficking charges in the United States and was extradited to the U.S. on January 19, 2017. On November 13, 2018, he was found guilty of all ten counts against him.
Fourth Escape, Arrest, and Extradition
In 2016, El Chapo made his fourth escape from a Mexican prison. He was captured in January 2017 and extradited to the United States in January 2019. He was currently awaiting trial in New York. On July 17, 2019, he was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 30 years. As you can see, the story of Joaquin Guzman Loera aka El Chapo continues. I am not sure what will happen next. but I do know that with so many moving parts it will be difficult for him to make another escape.
